TAKE A WALK!
Please join us for the Veteran's Day Community Walk on Saturday, November 11. In honor of the holiday, we will meet at the Thornton Veteran's Memorial, which is located on the north side of the Veteran's Memorial Aquatic Center (VMAC). The VMAC is located on the south side of 136th Street, across the street from Horizon H.S. (just west of Holly Street). There's usually a swim meet going on so you may not find a parking spot at the VMAC parking lot, but you can usually find one in the Horizon H.S. parking lot. This will be an out & back route along the Eastlake Heritage Trail; it is a relatively flat course and mostly on a paved surface. You can go the full 6 miles or whatever shorter distance you have time for. We will depart promptly at 9 a.m. so please don't be late. If you are interested in participating in the community walk program but can't come on November 11, please make sure we have your e-mail address and we will keep you apprised of the dates, locations and distances for upcoming walks. Please send those inquiries to Discover@cityofthornton.net. The December event will be held on Saturday, December 16.
This is a monthly fitness program designed to help you develop or maintain a consistent fitness program. City of Thornton Recreation Staff will lead the walk each month. These treks will be of varying distances and will explore the many different trails around the community. Come alone or bring your spouse, your neighbors, your children and/or your dog. This is an opportunity to pursue your fitness goals, meet some new people and enjoy the trails of Thornton and the surrounding area. These walks are free and open to anyone who can physically complete the distance. These are "no frills" events, so bring what you will need (water bottle, pet pick-up bags, etc.) for the duration of each month's walk.
