The City of Thornton has a commitment to keep our community a safe, secure, and healthy place to live, work, and raise a family. The Police and Fire Departments and City Court system are key components of that commitment.
Emergency Notification System
The City of Thornton has implemented an emergency notification system -- a system that will contact City residents and businesses via phone, text or e-mail in case of fire emergencies or critical or severe weather situations.
Use the "Sign Up for Emergency Alerts" link to register your cellular number, Voice over IP number, and/or e-mail address with the City of Thornton Alert Emergency Notification System.
Note: Listed and unlisted land line telephone numbers are already included in the database and do not need to be registered.
The system utilizes the telephone companies’ 911 database and is able to contact land line telephone numbers, whether listed or unlisted. If the call is picked up by an answering machine, the system will leave a recorded message. If the number called is busy or does not answer, the system will redial the number in an attempt to deliver the message. The system is also TTY/TDD compatible.
Because the City of Thornton system uses the 911 database, only land line numbers are automatically included in the system. If you have a cellular or Voice over IP number and would like to be notified on that device, or if you would like an e-mail notification, you must register those telephone numbers and your e-mail address by completing the registration form via the link on this page. To register you will need to create a minimum eight character password. This will enable you to update your contact information whenever it changes.
Each telephone number and e-mail address registered will be contacted only when the street address it is associated with is impacted by a police or fire emergency or weather alert.
