Reminder: No hot embers in trash/recycle containers
NEVER put hot fireplace ashes in your city trash or recycle containers because they can easily ignite combustible items. All ashes should be stored in a fire-resistant, metal container with a tight fitting cover to keep air from blowing through which can leave hot coals exposed for re-ignition. After sitting for a week in the metal container the ashes are then safe to dispose of in your trash.
