THORNTON, CO…Kick-off the holiday season at Thornton’s WinterFest, presented by Bellco Credit Union. This annual event covers nearly five acres with 460 holiday trees, 125,000 lights, a skating ‘pond’, four fire pits, ice sculpting, food court and eight custom-built holiday buildings, and is a unique and fun experience for the whole family. The festivities take place at Carpenter Park Fields, at 108th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard on:
• Friday, December 8, from 6:30-9 p.m.
• Saturday, December 9, from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
• Sunday, December 10, from 5-9 p.m.
On Friday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m., Thornton’s Mayor and Thornton City Council will help Santa turn on the lights in Santa’s Village. Throughout the festival, there will be performances by local choirs, professional ice-carving demonstrations, skating on the Village Pond, the North Pole Nibbles Food Court, the Community Tree Decorating Contest, various walk-around entertainers, and puppet shows at the North Pole Puppet Theatre.
On Saturday at 9 a.m., the WinterFest 5K begins in the lower parking lot of Carpenter Park. Sign up at winterfest5k.com by December 6 or at the starting line on December 9. Enjoy holiday shopping opportunities from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Holiday Marketplace in the large event tent, and children can enjoy a craft activity the Children’s Craft Shoppe. Saturday night includes carnival games for the kids from 5-8 p.m.), and a holiday concert by the Thornton Community Band from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Santa’s Village Event Tent. The night will end with a spectacular fireworks show starting at 8:30 p.m.; one of the few December fireworks displays in Colorado.
Come back on Sunday evening for more holiday fun including ice-skating, kids carnival games from 5-8 p.m. and a free concert by the Thornton Community Chorus at 5:30 p.m. in the Santa’s Village Event Tent with some of the most talented voices in the area and performances by local musicians.
