Development Engineering oversees design and construction of public and private infrastructure within the City of Thornton. Development Engineering works closely with Current Planning, Building Inspection, and Landscape Architecture divisions to provide pre-application meetings, review submittals, and complete inspections of improvements.
Construction Drawings are required for most development projects, and shall adhere to City of Thornton Standards and Specifications. Construction Drawings are often submitted in tandem with a Traffic Report, Drainage Report, and Utility Report. Approved reports and drawings are required prior to the issuance of a Construction Permit. See the Construction Guide page for submittal requirements. Visit the Building Inspection page for information on building permits.
Development Engineering inspectors are assigned to a project for its duration. Inspections are scheduled through the inspector. Contact information can be found below.
Construction and Traffic Control Permitting
Construction and Traffic control permits are issued through Development Engineering. See the Construction Permit Handout to ensure all criteria have been met before applying. Construction permit and/or Traffic Control permit applications may be completed online using the links on this page.
