2017 Council Candidate - Ward 2
Seth "Isaiah" Thomas
Occupation: Ground Operations Agent for Southwest Airlines
Previous Elected Offices: Previously ran for the Adams 12 Five Star Board of Education
Other Leadership Positions and Community Involvement: Member of Concerned Citizens of Ward I and II
Why are you the most qualified person for this office?
I believe having a new young voice on City Council matters the most. Thornton needs a Council Member who has the energy, is transparent, and open minded. I bring connections to the other local elected officials, and have the ability to work with city staff and citizens. I believe leadership begins with listening and I am the voice for the people of Thornton.
What is the most important issue facing Thornton and how would you propose addressing it?
The most import issues facing Thornton are the smaller issues that our citizens face such as: excessive speed in neighborhoods, the lack of bulk trash pickup, fireworks, affordable housing, economic development, traffic along Thornton's busiest streets, Fast racks, and Thornton's future water supply. I believe the way we address these issues is by first listening to the wants and needs of the people, and then working with city staff and fellow Council Members to address them.
What do you think the city does well and where do you see room for improvement?
I think the city has managed its growth in the best way that it can. I do think it needs help with development. More specifically I feel that our city needs help gaining more economic development to support our growth. Throughout the city it will be crucial to have a Councilman who wants our big businesses to thrive, but also someone who will make sure that our small businesses prosper. I also feel that crime and the deterioration of public service buildings has become an issue, and the need for excellent public safety is vital.
What is your favorite thing about living in Thornton?
The community. I love Thornton's diversity. We are the six largest city in the state of Colorado and rapidly growing. I like that we as a community are here to support each other. When Thornton faces challenges we always find a way to overcome them. Our city is rich in culture and innovative ideas. We are big on community involvement and strive to be the best.
