Senior Center Services

Transportation Services for Handicapped and Seniors
The Thornton Senior Center contracts with the Adams County Special Transit program to provide transportation services to senior citizens. The Senior Center schedules transportation for senior citizens wishing to participate in the lunch program, Monday through Friday. Transportation reservations may be made by calling the Senior Center at 303-255-7850. Reservations must be made two business days in advance by 10:00 a.m.

Seniors or handicapped persons requiring transportation services for medical appointments and grocery shopping should contact A-Lift to determine eligibility. Community Transit’s phone number is 303-235-6972. RTD Access-a-ride is available in Adams County to qualifying handicapped persons regardless of age or income level. Persons interested in qualifying for this service should call RTD at 303-299-2960.

Pedicures
Kellie Cortez is available for appointments the first and third Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please call 303-255-7850 to make an appointment. Pedicures cost $13, fingernail trimming and filing is available for $6.50. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance or a $7 surcharge will apply. This service is for seniors only. Bring a towel or you may rent one for $1. Polish application is available for an additional $1.

Podiatry services
The Senior Center offers professional podiatry care with Dr. Scott Taylor on the second Tuesday of each month  from 1 - 4:30 p.m. Services provided will be diabetic foot care; routine palliative care of calluses and toenails; evaluation of various foot deformities including bunions, hammertoes and heel pain. The cost for services is $20 cash or check. For an appointment, call the Senior Center at 303-255-7850.

Massage Therapy
Prices are $16 for 30 minutes, $32` for one hour. We require a 24-hour notice of cancellation. Call 303-255-7850 for an appointment and please remember to bring a towel to your appointment.

Vial of Life
Emergency medical information provides helpful information to police, sheriff, fire and ambulance crews when an emergency is called in on 911. Local senior citizens can participate in the Vial of Life program by filling out an enrollment form and placing it in a vial which is kept in your home refrigerator. Forms are available at the Senior Center. Call 720-977-5852 for details.

Health Screenings
Preventative health-care services are available the first Friday of each month, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.  Sponsored by the Visiting Nurse Association, services include:

Call (303) 255-7850 for an appointment. Blood Sugar requires a 48-hour notice. Appointments are necessary for all services except blood pressure checks.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS)
Thornton TOPS group meets weekly at the Thornton Senior Center. Anyone interested in losing weight, eating healthy and living a more active lifestyle can join the group. The group meets every Tuesday from 9 -10:30 a.m. at the Thornton Senior Center, 9471 Dorothy Blvd. For more information, call the Thornton Senior Center at 303-255-7850. Men and visitors welcome!
