Special Interest Activities
The Thornton Senior Center
offers a wide variety of special interest activities throughout the week on a
drop-in basis. Feel free to stop in and check them out, there’s sure to be
something that interests you.
Afternoon at the Movies
Join us on the fourth Tuesday of
each month at 12:30 for a free movie. Movies are provided by Hollywood
Video on Eppinger and Washington. Call 303-255-7850 to check on what's
showing.
Wood Carvers
Come and join the "Thornton Wood Chippers" every
Monday morning. Bring your wood and trusty knife. We've got friendly folks with
whitlin' wisdom who will show you how to create a masterpiece. Mondays from 9-11
a.m.
Wood Shop
Our well-equipped wood shop is open daily from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. You
are welcome to come and work on your favorite projects. Simply get
certified to use the power tools by one of our wood shop volunteers and sign a
waiver form - then go to it!
Yesteryears Singers
This talented music group performs around the community in nursing homes, other
senior centers and such. Most of their songs are from the 1920’s, 30’s and
40’s, hence the name "Yesteryears Singers." They rehearse every
Monday morning from 9–10:30 a.m. Call the senior center at 303-255-7850 if

Oil Painting
Bring in your canvas, paints and brushes, and join fellow artists in an
afternoon of oil painting. Get someone else’s opinion, share ideas or help
another out. There is not an instructor during this time. Painters gather after
lunch on Monday afternoons from 1 – 3 p.m.
Wednesday Crafts
Preparing for their annual craft sale each December, and providing party favors
and table center pieces for holiday events, this lively group keeps busy year
round. Sponsored by the 55+ Organization, volunteer Dorothy McCrimmon, will lead
you in simple, yet creative crafts. No experience needed. You will enjoy the
fellowship of this special group as you put your hands and talents to work. You
will find them each Wednesday morning from 9:30–11:30 hard at work. Make
plans to join them this week!
Puzzled?
Looking for something to do? Enjoy the challenge of
a puzzle? Why not hang out at the senior center put a piece or two in the puzzle
in progress? During our open hours, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday, you
can spend a cold wintry day enjoying a warm cup of coffee while you work on the
puzzle.
Volleyball for Seniors
Drop-in Tuesday mornings at the Community Center on
Eppinger and Gaylord, for open volleyball from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. This is a
good way to stay in shape for the fall league, tune up your volleyball skills
and have fun with fellow volleyball players. There is no cost for seniors
55 and over during this time, however, anyone under 55 will need to pay the
daily drop-in fee of 50 cents.
Bridge - Thursdays from 12:30-4:30 p.m.
Pinochle - Tuesdays from 12:30-4 p.m.
Poker
Just about every afternoon, you can find a fun and friendly group playing
poker. Call 303-255-7850 to confirm on any day. 12:30-4:30
p.m.
Friday Bingo
Join us for a fun time playing bingo. Prizes will depend on the number
of players. 25 cents a board, or five for $1.
Fridays at 10 a.m.
Wednesday Bingo
Bingo is also played on the first and last Wednesday of each month at 12:45
p.m. Same price applies.
Shuffleboard
We currently have shuffleboard tournaments once a month. Please call
720-977-5859 for more information or to sign up.
