What is TASHCO?

The Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) is a 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to promote cultural and scientific activities in the city of Thornton. The TASHCO Board of Directors are the incumbent members of the Thornton City Council. The Board of Directors may appoint an Executive Committee of seven members. The purpose of the Executive Committee is to make recommendations and advise the TASHCO Board of Directors on cultural and scientific programming. Recreation Staff provides administrative support to the TASHCO Board of Directors and to the TASHCO Executive Committee.

On an annual basis, TASHCO submits a grant application to the Adams County Cultural Council, in an effort to secure SCFD funding for local cultural and scientific programs. The following programs are scheduled for 2006:

  • Funtaztikidz – this program (formerly called the Funtaztik Family Saturdayz) is a monthly entertainment program for children and their parents.  The focus of the program is to provide cultural, scientific and entertaining performances specifically for this audience.  This FREE program rotates between the Community Center and the Carpenter Recreation Center each month, and the dates and times of the program vary.  For complete details on the upcoming schedule, please go to the Funtaztikidz page

 

  • Hispanic Heritage Celebration  – this is a week-long event that will be held the week of September 11-16. The week will kick-off with entertainment and an interactive cultural tent at Harvest Fest an annual community festival that will be held in Community Park on September 9, 2006. ·                    Young Artists Festival – the 10th annual competition will take place next year. All divisions will compete in the spring competition held in April, and this includes the ballet, piano, vocal, strings and visual arts divisions.  This program is a collaborative effort between the City of Thornton , the City of Northglenn , the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation, the Paletteer’s Art Club and Ballet Nouveau.  For more information please contact Jan Kiehl at 720-977-5906 or Rosalie Keith at 303-457-2289. ·                    Water Festival – This is a science program for 5th grade students in Northglenn , Thornton and Westminster .  The program is a collaborative effort between these three cities and the Front Range Community College .  The program will feature presentations and sessions that will convey to the students the critical importance of water in their lives, as well as its connection with nature and society.  The 3rd annual event is scheduled for May 2006; for more information, please contact Laura Taylor at 720-977-6514.

 

·                    Classics with a Twist – This will be a brand new program that will feature six performances featuring classical musicians.  This program will be a collaborative effort between the City of Thornton , TASHCO, the City of Northglenn and the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Foundation.  For more information, please contact Jan Kiehl at 720-977-5906.  Follow the link to view and download our promotional flier.

·                    Seniors Celebrate Cultural Diversity – This is a continuation of the 2006 program, which is a collaborative effort between various Adams County Senior Centers ( Thornton , Northglenn , Brighton and Commerce City ).  Each facility spends a couple weeks exploring a different culture, and these events typically take place between August and November.  For more information, please contact Erica Munson at 720-977-5852.
