Parks & Open Space Capital Projects

In 1997, Thornton voters approved a ¼% sales tax to fund parks and open space projects. The tax generates approximately $3 million per year. Then in 2000, voters approved a $22 million bond to fund parks and open space projects. These actions are making a number of park and open space projects possible.

Parks and Open Space Master Plan

The City prepares a Parks and Open Space Master Plan. This plan is updated every three years and is used for citywide and regional parks, trails and open space planning. As part of the planning process, projects are identified and prioritized for recommendation to City Council.


About Us

The Open Space and Project Management Division (303-255-7843) is responsible for the planning, design and inspection of parks and open space capital projects.  The Division also works with the Parks and Open Space Advisory Commission in implementing the City’s Parks and Open Space Master Plan.
