Fire Explorer Post

The Thornton Fire Explorer Post is a unique opportunity for young adults to “explore” their interest in firefighting and to learn more about the opportunities and challenges that are available to people who choose a career in firefighting. This challenge to explore a career as a firefighter is being offered to interested young men and women who reside or attend school in Thornton, ages 16 to 20, and will include a variety of hands-on and practical learning experiences. 

The motto for the Explorer Post is: “Our best today for a better tomorrow.” 

The goals of the program include:

  • Provide practical experience in the fire/rescue service.
  •  
  • Provide a program of activities centered on career opportunities life skills, service learning, character education, and leadership experience, thereby encouraging the development of the whole person.
  •  
  • Provide positive leadership from adult and youth leaders while giving opportunities to take on leadership roles.
  •  
  • Provide opportunities to learn and grow in a supportive, caring, and fun environment.
  •  
  • Participate in TFD and community service activities, including routine and emergency service delivery, public education, training and experience life as a firefighter.
