CPR for Family and Friends
This program teaches rescuers skills in CPR and relief of choking. It presents information about signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke and choking in adults. It also presents information about signs of choking in children, how to reduce risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and prevention of the most common fatal injuries in infants and children.
Intended Audience: All lay rescuers, such as schoolchildren, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones.
No written/skills exam for this course.
Professional CPR
This course teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking in adults and children. Students also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack and stroke in adults and breathing difficulties in children. Written/skills exam required for certification card.
Professional CPR plus First Aid
The course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the time of an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course also provides corporations with a complete health and safety training solution for First Aid, CPR and AED (automatic external defibrillator).
CPR Instructor
In order to be a CPR Instructor through the City of Thornton, you must have been certified in CPR by the American Heart Association for a period of one year. Contact the City’s EMS Administrator at 303-538-7655 for information on the next instructor course. The EMS Administrator will review the requirements, time commitments, paperwork, and the American Heart Association expectations with you. The Fire Department welcomes qualified individuals wishing to provide CPR instruction in our local neighborhoods, businesses, schools, churches or other civic organizations.
Recertification
Upon special request, a half-day CPR recertification class may be arranged for a minimum of six individuals per class, depending on the availability of instructor personnel. This class is for individuals who have already been trained in CPR and need to renew their certification. Please call for special arrangements.
