High note: TASHCO to form community concert band
Band will bring musical performances to City and surrounding area
THORNTON, CO…. The Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) is excited to support and promote a unique opportunity for musicians in Thornton and neighboring areas with the formation of a community concert band.
The group is currently seeking adult instrumental musicians from Thornton and the surrounding area. “The band is important to the City of Thornton because for generations, community bands have been an American tradition in large cities and small towns across the nation,” says Thornton Arts and Cultural Manager Buz Hedglin. “A band can unify and add excitement in the community, for those who play and for those who listen.”
Once established, the band will begin rehearsals in March in the Skyview High School band room at 8990 York Street. The auditorium at Skyview will be the primary location for performances but the band will also seek opportunities to perform at other venues. The first concert will be held in May with Dr. David Kish leading the band as the conductor. Dr. Kish is the Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at The Metropolitan State College of Denver.
