Thornton’s featured artist turns trash to treasure
Harvey Whitcomb’s work celebrates the unexpected
aspects of mundane materials
THORNTON, CO…. In celebration of Earth Day, the City of Thornton presents a special showing of art work by Harvey Whitcomb. Whitcomb is an innovative emerging artist working primarily in recycled materials.
Whitcomb’s art is made from metal, foils, paper and CDs and DVDs modified with heat and flame. This modification
results in a spectacular new finish for the discs creating an opalescent beauty. “The creation of my artwork is a striving after beautiful and exciting visual imagery using common discarded materials,” says Whitcomb. “My work will hopefully surprise viewers with new and unexpected aspects of mundane materials - turning trash into treasure.”
Whitcomb’s work is now on display at Thornton City Hall, 9500 Civic Center Drive.
His art is part of an ongoing effort to showcase artists from around the metro area, and make their work available for viewing to Thornton residents.
Earth Day is a national event intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the environment. This year it will be observed on April 22.
