Rocky Mountain Youth Clinic Opens

"Thornton was the ideal place to open up our clinic. With 20 exam rooms, it is double the amount of exam rooms of any other clinic we own and operate."

- Larry Wolk, Founder and Executive Director of The Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics.

The latest medical facility to open in Thornton's Health Services District is Rocky Mountain Youth Clinic.  RMYC is part of a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessible, high-quality health and dental care to children and adolescents, regardless of insurance status or family's ability to pay.  The organization was incorporated in 1996 by Dr. Larry Wolk, a Denver pediatrician, in response to the gap in the healthcare system that left many low-income and at-risk children and adolescents without access to care.

Since its inception, The Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics have grown from a single clinic providing approximately 2,000 patient visits per year to a network of three traditional clinics in the Denver Metro Area (at Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, Aurora Medical Center and North Suburban Medical Center), two mobile health clinics (one medical - one dental), and more than 20 satellite clinics throughout the State of Colorado that together provide approximately 50,000 patient visits per year. The RMYC's sole objective is reducing indicators of morbidity and mortality in children and adolescents with low socioeconomic status through accessible, high quality healthcare.

The new RMYC will employ approximately 12 healthcare professionals and they will join the more than 2,100 industry employees already based in Thornton's Health Services District.

City Sales Tax Online and Easy

The City of Thornton revamped its Sales and Use Tax Website and added new automated features including an online option for City merchants to file and pay their City sales tax.

"We are continually exploring ideas to make the compliance process more efficient and convenient for taxpayers.  Online filing provides added convenience for our taxpayers and improves internal efficiencies for our Finance Team.  Saving postage costs and encouraging 'green' practices by eliminating the need for paper and envelopes are added benefits to filing online," said Finance Director, David Boyd.

The new system allows sales tax payments to be filed if they are on-time. If businesses owe tax, their bank account will be debited within five business days of the tax return's due date.

The City's Web site also features other business and consumer sales tax related information. Click on the Sales & Use Tax link under the Business & Development menu.  For more information on City Sales Tax issues call 303-538-7400.

Redevelopment is Booming

"We have more projects actively under redevelopment than at any other previous time in the Original TDA's history," said Business Development Director, Robert Smith.  The original TDA is the Urban Renewal Area started in 1982 and covers much of Thornton's commercial areas to the south of 104th Avenue.  "Nearly 10 percent of the property in the Urban Renewal Area is in some phase of development, with highly visible construction projects including HighPointe Park, Shops along Grant Street, and Plaza Las Americas.  The former big box store at 102nd and Grant is being remodeled.  A new Old Chicago restaurant opened earlier this summer.  The movie theatre in the Thornton Town Center is being redeveloped into a 'dinner and a movie under one roof' concept.  It really is an exciting time for Thornton's continuing redevelopment efforts."

TDA Annual Reports and development updates on individual commercial projects can be accessed online.
