Trash/recycle collection not affected by storm
City of Thornton Trash and Recycle service is running on a normal schedule. If today is your trash/recycle day, please put your containers out for pickup. There is NO DELAY due to the snow.

Recreation, Senior, Community Centers closing early Friday
The City of Thornton Recreation Center, Senior Center and Community Center will be closing at 1 p.m. today. Currently, normal operating schedules are expected for Saturday, but please check for updates Saturday morning.

NOTE: Possible closure of I-25 at 84th Avenue Bridge
CDOT is responding to reports of large icicles hanging from the 84th Avenue Bridge over I-25. They plan to clear the icicles if they determine the icicles pose a danger. The clearing operation could entail a closure of that section of I-25, with vehicles rerouted from both directions onto the 84th Avenue exit, and then back onto I-25.

City Hall offices operating with essential personnel only
Excluded employees who are allowed not to work on Friday will be required to use vacation, comp, and/or unpaid time. City offices observe Martin Luther King, Hr. Holiday
City offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 16 to observe the MLK Holiday. The Carpenter Recreation Center, Thornton Community Center, and Senior Center will be open normal business hours. Trash/recycle pickup will not be affected.

South Thornton Health Impact Assessment
Healthy lifestyles and healthy neighborhoods go hand-in-hand. A draft report of the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) of the South Thornton Revitalization Subarea Plan is now available for public review and comment. All public input is welcome and will be considered during the finalization of this report.

Fire Department now equipped to treat pets for smoke inhalation
Thanks to a timely donation by a Denver metro business, Thornton firefighters can now treat household pets for smoke inhalation. "We've seen residents run back into burning homes to save a pet..."

New Year's Holiday closures
The Carpenter Recreation Center will be closing on New Year's Eve at 3 p.m. and will be open 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1. City Hall offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 2 to observe the holiday. Trash and recycle pickup will not be affected by the holiday.

Christmas tree drop-off
Finishing your holiday cleanup? The City of Thornton offers Christmas tree drop-off on Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Infrastructure Maintenance Center.

City building closures for the Christmas holiday
City Hall will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 in observance of the Christmas holiday. The Carpenter Recreation Center and Thornton Community Center will be closed Christmas Day, and will have limited hours on Christmas Eve.

2012 Thornton Assistance Funds available to nonprofits
If you are part of a nonprofit organization helping Thornton residents, then you are eligible for a portion of the $70,000 set aside in the Thornton Assistance Funds. Grants range from $500 - $8,000 for food banks, homeless shelters, health programs, and more.

Request for public comments
The City of Thornton is accepting public comments on the 2012 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Annual Action Plan. This plan identifies how the City will address housing and community development needs and provides a description of the projects that are proposed.

Outgoing and incoming Councilmembers recognized at meeting
The Council meeting on Nov. 15 will begin at 6 p.m. During the first part of the meeting, the current Council will recognize Councilmember Steve Lebsock who is leaving due to term limits. The meeting will recess at approximately 6:30 p.m. and a reception will follow. At 7:30 p.m., the meeting will reconvene and the swearing in of newly elected and re-elected Councilmembers and Mayor Heidi Williams will occur. A reception will follow.

Tree limb recycling at Adams County Regional Park
To assist county citizens with clean up from the recent snow storm, Adams County will accept tree limbs from county residents for recycling from Oct. 28 through Nov. 13 at the Adams County Regional Park and Fairgrounds, 9755 Henderson Road, Brighton 80601.

Street resurfacing program complete for 2011
With the finish of resurfacing on 120th Avenue and Grant Street, Thornton's 2011 street rehabilitation program is complete. The entire program included work on more than 141 lane miles of road.

New Regis University dual language campus in Thornton
On August 25, Regis University opened its new dual language campus in Thornton, located at 500 East 84th Avenue. The campus will offer accelerated studies for both English and Spanish speaking adults who want to return to college to complete a degree.

Trash/Recycle pickup set back one day
There will be a one day trash/recycle collection delay for all City of Thornton customers due to the Labor Day Holiday. Businesses and residences on Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday routes on Wednesday, etc., through Saturday. Normal collection will resume next week.
