Community Speed Reduction Programs
The City of Thornton actively pursues reduction of speeding. On main arterial streets, the City Police regularly enforce the speed limit. The City also puts out Speed Awareness Trailers to remind drivers what the speed limit is and what speed they are actually
traveling.
On residential streets, the City’s Traffic Engineering Division and Police Department work together to reduce speeding and increase safety. When a request to have speeding reduced in a neighborhood is received, the Traffic Engineering Division collects 24-hour speed data.
Information collected by the Division is provided to the Police Department to
assist in speeding enforcement.
