Overview: Come join us for the 17th Annual Cottonwood Classic 5K Run/Walk to be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Thorncreek Crossing Shopping Center at 120th and Washington Street. This family friendly event has become a community favorite over the years and we encourage you to come find out why! Event is open to runners, race-walkers, and recreational walkers of all ages and ability levels. We even have a special “Schools Division” for elementary school age children. And don’t be surprised if you set a personal record on our super flat course!
Registration: Walk-in registration starts Tuesday, May 1. Walk-ins are accepted at the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center, 11151 Colorado Boulevard in Thornton (303-255-7800) and at Runners Roost, 1685 South Colorado Boulevard in Denver (303-759-8455). Walk-ins will receive their race bib and t-shirt at the time of registration. We also accept internet registrations are at www.runningguru.com starting 1/1/12. Internet entrants may pick up their race bibs and t-shirts at the race start on Saturday. There is no phone in registration. Cut off for walk-in and internet registrations is Thursday, May 17 at noon. There will be no registration on Friday, May 18. Day-of registration starts at 7 a.m. near the start line (entry fee goes up $5 on the day of the event). The first 500 who pre-register will receive a shirt, those who register after that, may or may not receive a shirt.

What You Get: In addition to entry in the race, participants will get awesome post-race food and drink, finish line goody bags and automatic entry in our generous prize drawing (in 2011 we had a total of 53 merchants donate a total of $25,941 worth of items to the goody bags and prize drawing-must be present to win).

7:00 a.m.- Registration & Timing Chip Distribution
8:00 a.m.- Runners Start
8:05 a.m.- Elementary School Division Racers
8:10 a.m.- Racewalkers & Walkers Start
9:15 a.m.- Scores Tabulated/Posted, Prize Drawing Starts
9:30 a.m.- Awards Presentation
Race Chip Timing: You will need to pick up your chip on race day, starting at 7:00 a.m. Chips will come attached to the bibs
Course Description/Map: Start/finish line is at 12100 Washington Center Parkway (East of Thorncreek Shopping Center) and is very flat.
Course Certification
Dogs/Strollers: Well behaved dogs are welcome and must be kept on leashes (4 foot or less) at all times. Please do not block or impede the progress of other participants! Strollers are also permitted.
Bikes/Blades/Boards- For safety reasons bikes, rollerblades and skateboards are not permitted.
Schools Division: In an effort to promote healthy habits and encourage children to exercise regularly, we offer a special Schools Division. Elementary school teachers, staff or volunteers are encouraged to form teams to train and compete at the race. Awards are given out to the fastest coed teams (2 boys, 2 girls) and the schools with the largest participation numbers. In 2011 we had 16 schools participate. Age Divisions: First through third place awards are given to male and female runners in the following age categories (age on race day):
7 and under 8-9 10 - 11 12-14 15-19 20-24 25-29 30-34 35-39 40-44 45-49 50-54 55-59 60-64
65-69 70+
Additionally, overall fastest male and female runners receive special awards. Award winners must be present at the ceremony following the race (or designate someone to pick up your award for you). We will not mail awards to winners!
Racewalker Awards: First through fifth place fastest male and female racewalkers will also receive awards (there are no separate age categories). Overall fastest male and female racewalker will receive special awards.
Results: Following the race, results will be posted online at www.hallucinationsports.com
Weather: The race will be held rain or shine, but lightning, extreme winds or other dangerous weather could cause cancellation or delay of the event. Please call (720) 977-5908 for information on cancellation or delay. The message will only be changed when a decision has been made to cancel/delay.

Thorntonfest: After the race, why not come join us for the 17th Annual Thorntonfest Celebration on the fields at 108th and Colorado Boulevard? We’ll have three performance stages, free carnival rides and activities for kids, food court and beer garden, car show, large marketplace for crafters and businesses and even a section celebrating all things pet related!
