Recycling Statistics

Back to Recycling

The purpose of the City of Thornton’s recycle collection program is to reduce the amount of materials in the local landfill. The following statistics represent the amount of materials recycled by Thornton residents in 2007.

  • 1,306 gallons of used motor oil
  • 2,934 tons of single stream recycle materials
  • 109 auto batteries

These numbers represent a landfill diversion of 8% for 2007.

Although these statistics aren’t bad, they can certainly be better! There is much room for improvement. There is no reason NOT to recycle. The recycle program is included in the basic fee and carries no additional charge to all Thornton Solid Waste collection customers. It’s just a matter of putting recyclable materials in the green cart, rather than the black cart. For information on the One Container Recycling program, use the following link... If you have any questions about the recycle collection program, or recyclable materials, please contact the Environmental Services office at 720-977-6200, or e-mail Infrastructure Department.
