Utility BillingUtility Billing is responsible for water, sewer, and trash collection billing, and providing customer service and information to those inquiring about City issued utility bills. CommunicationsNews releases, Thornton Cable 8 TV, on-demand video, Web bulletins, and our quarterly Inside Thornton magazine are just some of the resources managed by the Communications Division. The office also handles media relations and edits and creates city publications. Sales and Use TaxThe Tax Division is responsible for the collection of the City’s sales, use, lodging, and telephone taxes. It administers and enforces the City’s tax laws by educating the public about the City’s Taxation Code and conducting audits of companies that are engaged in business in Thornton. Contracts and PurchasingContracts and Purchasing is responsible for providing centralized purchasing of commodities and capital equipment needed for City operations. This division negotiates and administers all contracts related to capital construction and all professional and non-professional services. Municipal CourtThe Municipal Court has jurisdiction to hear and rule on most misdemeanors and traffic violations as outlined in Thornton’s Municipal Charter and adopted ordinances. The Municipal Court staff processes all summonses and complaints, and coordinates arraignments and trials. The Court Manager is responsible for the records of the Court. Accounting OfficesIn addition to collecting and analyzing financial data, processing invoices and payments, issuing invoices and notices, and managing the City's portfolio, these offices prepare the Annual Financial Report (CAFR). |
