The following statistics represent the amount of materials recycled by Thornton residents in 2011.
- 4,603 tons of single stream recycle materials
- 495 tons of single stream from the Community recycle drop off centers
- 1,630 gallons of used motor oil
- 450 gallons of anti-freeze
- 210 gallons used cooking oil
- 144 auto batteries
- 14 tons of scrapmetal
- 9 refrigerated appliances dropped off at the IMC Bldg.
These numbers represent a landfill diversion of 13% for 2011.
Although these statistics aren’t bad, they can certainly be better! There is much room for improvement. There is no reason NOT to recycle. The recycle program is included in the basic fee and carries no additional charge to all Thornton Solid Waste collection customers. It’s just a matter of putting recyclable materials in the green cart, rather than the black cart. For information on the One Container Recycling program, use the following link...
