Becoming a City of Thornton Firefighter

Persons interested in becoming a City of Thornton firefighter must submit an online job application DURING the posting period to be considered.

Testing and Screening

The City of Thornton participates in the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) testing process to conduct the written examinations for entry level firefighter positions. An application and fee paid directly to DRCOG are required. Testing is conducted twice per year. Those who successfully pass the written test are placed in a centralized pool of candidates for one year from the test date. Candidates registered with DRCOG at the time of the City of Thornton job posting may also be considered.

If you are interested in finding out more about the DRCOG testing procedures to become a firefighter, please contact them directly at 303-480-6730 or visit www.drcog.org/fire for more information.

City of Thornton conducts additional testing such as the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), oral board examinations, and other selection and background processes for potential new fire recruits. To learn more about our recruitment process, speak with our Human Resources Office at 303-538-7245.
