Teen Advisory Council 
 
The Thornton Teen Advisory Council is a group of youth and teens who have the desire to create opportunities for a better world for the youth who live and play in the City of Thornton.  The Council allows for the voices and opinions of the youth to be heard and creates opportunities for a better community for the youth of Thornton.  We recruit for new members twice a year.  Each term is a one-year commitment.  Call to find out when you can get involved! 720-977-5934.

Council Mission

To advise the City of Thornton Recreation Staff on what is important to the youth and teens that live and play in Thornton and to have opportunities to volunteer and give back to our community.


Goals

  • To discuss and suggest possible solutions about issues that young people in Thornton are facing. 
  • To discuss and provide input about programs that are offered to the teens in the community
  • To promote positive programs with peers
  • To promote a drug and alcohol free lifestyle.

Organization

Membership on the council includes up to 15 youth from around the City of Thornton.  The council reports to Youth and Teen Recreation Coordinator.


Criteria for Participation

  1. Youth in Middle and High School students ages 11-18.  
  2. Must reside in the City of Thornton .  
  3. Have and maintain a 2.0 GPA in school.  
  4. Be drug and alcohol free.  
  5. Stay out of trouble with the law and at school.  
  6. Be willing to share ideas in group setting.  
  7. Be accepting of others and their ideas.   

Responsibility of the Council Members

  1. To talk about what is important to the youth in our community.  
  2. To assist at City sponsored community events.  
  3. To make recommendations toward positive changes for youth in our community.  
  4. To gather information from their peers to aid us in programming for the teens.  
  5. To promote City of Thornton Teen programs with peers.
