Beautiful trees, shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses can be grown in Thornton!
Are you are having issues with growing plants in Thornton? Having trouble selecting plants that will grow in our high plains climate? Unsure about the water needed to grow certain plants?
A visit to Thornton's Xeriscape Garden may be the answer to your issues, problems and concerns. The Garden was installed in 1997 and is intended to give residents an opportunity to observe plants that are successful.
The Garden is divided into four separate areas. These areas have plant materials grouped by their water use. These areas include:
- Moderate/Traditional Water Use Area - an area of the Garden with plant material that is typically found in most Thornton yards.
- Low Water Use Area - an area with plants that require a substantailly less amount of water than the Moderate Area.
- Very Low Water Use Area - this area has plant materials that will survive on an average annual amount of rainfall (15" of rainfall per year).
- Experimental Water Use Area - this area within the Garden is used by Forestry staff to try new plants.
