Construction is complete on the new skate park for skateboarders, BMX bikers and inline skaters at the Thornton Trail Winds Park and Open Space. The new skate park is the City's second and is located at 134th Avenue and Holly Street. The park area includes the approximately 14,000 square foot concrete skate park, a small parking lot, trail and sidewalk connections, shade pavilion with site furniture, signage and landscaping.
The project was primarily funded through the City's Parks and Open Space Tax revenues. The City was also awarded $350,000 from two local grants to use toward the project including an Adams County Open Space Grant for $150,000 and a Great Outdoors Colorado Local Government Grant in the amount of $200,000. The skate park was designed by DHM and Team Pain and constructed by ECI and California Skateparks and incorporates the input received during the two skate park workshops. The landscaping at the site will be completed in spring 2012.
