The Margaret W. Carpenter Park and Open Space Improvement Project includes the design and construction of improvements across the site with primary improvements located west of the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center at 11151 Colorado Blvd.  The primary area of improvements takes place in the area south of 112th Avenue and north of the multipurpose fields.  Improvements will include a boathouse for pedal boat rentals, indoor carousel, outdoor amphitheatre, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, bocce ball, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, trails, skate park, splash ground and associated access, parking and landscape improvements.

The project also includes flush toilets to be located adjacent the boathouse and another set south of the existing multi-purpose fields.  Project improvements are being funded through Thornton's park and open space tax revenues along with two Adams County Open Space Grant awards ($1,876,122), Great Outdoors Colorado Local Government Grant award ($200,000) and a Division of Wildlife Fishing is Fun Grant ($21,800).  Construction began in July 2011 with the grand opening scheduled for spring 2013. 

While there are several separate components such as tennis, basketball, skatepark, etc. being constructed as part of the project, the entire construction site will remain closed to the public for your safety until all components are completed, including the sod establishment.  We ask for your patience as we progress toward the finish line!
