Plan Objectives

The main objectives of the Eastlake Station TOD Master Plan are as follows...

  • Create a community-based vision for the area influenced by the station
  • Document the economic opportunities surrounding the station
  • Guide RTD’s in the station’s final location, and configuration to support the community’s vision and meet the station’s functional requirements
  • Outline specific land uses and infrastructure sections so that the City of Thornton and RTD can ensure the station is successfully integrated with its surrounding neighborhoods.

Plan Inception and History

An 18-mile commuter rail transit system, the North Metro Corridor, to run between Denver Union Station and 162nd Avenue, is in the planning phase. This rail system will pass through Thornton for a good deal of its route.

The North Metro Environmental Impact Study currently underway is recommending Eastlake as one of the transit stops. The City of Thornton approved the Eastlake Station TOD Master Plan on February 24, 2009 to help ensure that new development in the Eastlake Station area functions well as a transit stop area and fits with the surrounding area.

The City of Thornton approved the Eastlake Subarea Plan in 2003. This subarea plan focuses on the existing historic Eastlake area to the west of the tracks. The Eastlake Station TOD Master Plan focuses more on the immediate station area, in particular the vacant land around the station, and the connections to the station.
