The Comprehensive Plan is being updated!
The City updates the Comprehensive Plan every five years to reflect the community's evolving planning needs. The current Comprehensive Plan was approved in 2007 and is now ready for a technical update. The Policy Planning Division is coordinating the update with direction from City Council. The five-year update will retain the overall direction set by the 2007 Plan and will not be an extensive rewrite. The 2012 Plan will update technical data and address development and policy changes that have occurred since 2007.
Planning process
Completion of the update is anticipated in mid-2012. Check back regularly for updates on the planning process. If you have questions, please contact the Policy Planning Division at 303.538.7295.
Community Input
At Harvest Fest on September 10, 2011, forty-six festival attendees provided input on the importance of seven new topics which may be considered in the updated Plan (Note: the three topics identified with a star (
) were most frequently cited as "important"):
- Opportunities for diverse transportation

- Services within one mile

- Access to healthy foods
- Jobs close to home
- Resource conservation
- Historic preservation
- Mixed-use "Live, Work, Play" neighborhoods

Participants were also asked to "Write the one word that describes what is most important to you about the future of Thornton between now and 2025." Below is a word cloud created from the 46 responses. The size of the word represents the frequency of the word or phrase.
