Councilmember, Ward 1
Councilmember Jenice “JJ” Dove has lived in The of City Thornton for over 35 years and has been a resident of Adams County for over 37 years. As a single parent, it was rough raising three girls (Dawn, Denice, and Deeann), all here in Thornton. Her family is still three generations strong in Thornton. Currently, some of her grandkids still live within the city limits. This is just one of the many reasons “JJ” continues to call Thornton home today.
“JJ” worked in health care for many years, most recently at Vibra Hospital in Thornton’s Ward 1. It was formally known as North Valley Rehab or Mediplex Specialty Hospital. Most of “JJ”'s years were spent working with vented patients where she gained a great deal of compassion and quickly learned to really listen to what people were saying or asking for. While working with these patients, listening to what they had to say about how they got to be in their current state of health, Councilmember Dove thought about what she could do to make a difference in the lives of the people outside her hospital and in the Thornton community. After putting a lot of thought into this, she realized that this is where it all began. “JJ” thought a lot about inequity and what she could do to try to make things more equal.
Ward 1 is 55 years old and in great need of revitalization. Revitalization is on its way now thanks to our past City Council and a group of Thornton citizens, including “JJ” who worked on the Thornton Revitalization Task Force. Revitalization will take time but it is coming. “JJ” plans to be one of the people that helps bring new life back to Ward 1. “JJ” plans to also take a stand for Thornton citizens while serving on council. And as she has stated time and time again, she promises to be a Councilmember who continues to keep her promise to listen to what not only citizens want but need. “JJ” recognizes that things are not that easily done, and certainly not done that quickly, but she plans to work hard until the job is done. “JJ” feels that Thornton is currently working hard to ensure that the promise that was made to the people of Thornton is kept. After retiring from healthcare, she recently spent several years doing community service within Thornton, getting involved in helping the Thornton community in any way she could. As famous anthropologist Margret Mead once said, “Never doubt that a group of small, thoughtful, committed citizens could change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” Councilmember Dove feels that Thornton citizens must get involved in local government as this is the most powerful form of government that we have.
Councilmember Dove’s special interest is her constituents, the underserved, City staff, and the rest of the people of Thornton. “JJ” wants all the people of Thornton to know she promises to listen and do her part while serving the people of this great city, and she plans to do all she can to help the people of Thornton in any way she can!
