Rebuilding Days

Want to become more involved in the Thornton community?

group pictureAre you interested in becoming a local volunteer? Then join us for Rebuilding Days!  Thornton is teaming up once again with Rebuilding Together Metro Denver to help fix up two Thornton homes that are in need of repair.  The goal of the day is to keep our seniors “safe, warm, and dry” in their homes.

What is “Rebuilding Days”? Rebuilding Days is an opportunity for community members to come together to help low-income, elderly, or disabled homeowners rehabilitate their homes. Coordinated through Rebuilding Together Metro Denver, teams of 20-25 volunteers will work for one full day to repair and revitalize a home, all at no cost to the qualified homeowner. The shared experience of dramatically improving the safety and the quality of life makes Rebuilding Days a memorable volunteer experience and an effective community building activity.

When is it? Saturday, October 4, 2008 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What kind of activities can I expect to do?
Paint, replace light fixtures, install handrails or grab bars, install weather stripping, fix locks, build handicap ramps and more!

Do I need construction skills?
No! Just show up and be ready for a full day of work. Team leads will be there to provide guidance and instructions on how to complete your assignments. We’ll also provide lunch and drinks to help keep your energy levels up throughout the day.

I want to volunteer, what do I need to do?

  • Volunteers must be able to work all day! We cannot accommodate volunteers who can only help out for a few hours.
  • Volunteers must be 16 or older. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • If you have a group of 4 or more volunteers, please call Susanna at 303-538-7587, so we can make sure there are enough spots for everyone to work at the same location.
