Thornton hosts Holiday recycOil event
A safe, environmentally friendly way to recycle cooking oil
THORNTON, CO…The holidays bring fun family feasts, and they also bring leftovers. If you’re frying your turkey, there is one leftover that can’t be served again: the cooking oil. It also can’t be poured down the drain: Pouring used cooking oil down the kitchen drain is the leading cause of sewer backups for homes and businesses. One safe, environmentally friendly way to dispose of the oil is to take it to a Holiday recycOil event.
The City of Thornton and Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises (RMSE) will host a cooking oil recycling event on November 29, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will take place at Thornton’s Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington Street, main entrance with access from Washington Street.
Last year RMSE held 10 events around the metro area to raise residential awareness about the need to recycle used cooking oil. In only a few hours, Holiday recycOil 2007 diverted nearly 2,000 gallons of used cooking oil from municipal water systems and landfills.
