Gas Log Installation Details
PERMITS ARE REQUIRED FOR GAS LOG AND GAS FIREPLACE INSTALLATION
Guidelines:
- Applicable codes are the 1994 Uniform Plumbing Code and the 1997 Uniform Mechanical Code
- Gas appliances must be approved by a recognized testing lab
- Gas pipe must be properly sized and approved for the intended use
- Flex connectors installed inside of firebox must be listed
- Installation of a manufacturers chimney is recommended
- Installation of glass doors are recommended
- Safety pilot is required
Inspection Checklist:
- 20 pound air test required for 15 minutes (gauge supplied by owner/contractor)
- Damper must be removed or permanently blocked open
- Shut off must be readily accessible and within three feet of firebox
- Combustion air may be required
- Manufacturers installation manual to be on site
- Flue size per manufacturers specs
- Gas pipe installed outdoors must be painted
Inspections:
- First inspection will consist of gas line and rough mechanical and should be called in as such
- Second inspection will be called in as a final mechanical and unit should be fully operable
- An adult must be present for the inspection
