Carol "Jody" Beckler
Councilmember, Ward 2
Return
A longtime resident of Thornton, Ward 2 City Council representative Carol Beckler
purchased her home in Thornton in 1969. The former owner of Jody's Flower Basket in Thornton during 1970-1984, Beckler
keeps active today with many community and church organizations, as well as continuing to
do flower arrangements and wedding consultation on a part-time basis. She is a member of
the St. John's Lutheran Church Council, the Colorado Roadrunners and Good Sam RV
Club.
As a Thornton councilmember, Beckler says she wishes to represent the people
of her Ward and be able to make decisions for the betterment of the Thornton
community. Born and raised in Bloomington, Illinois and a graduate of Bloomington High School, she
moved to Denver in 1952. She met her husband, Richard, at the USO in Denver, and they were
married in 1955 and moved to Columbus, Ohio. They returned to Denver when her husband was
discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1958.
She and her husband have four children, Tim, Tom, Janet and Peggy, who are all
residents of Thornton except Tim who lives in Oregon. They also have four grandchildren
and one great granddaughter. In addition to raising her own children, Beckler's family has been host to seven
exchange students from all over the world. Beckler says the experience of hosting foreign
exchange students has added to her knowledge of the world and created an interest for her
in the world's many other cultures.
