Councilmember, Ward 1
Return
I have been a Adams County resident for 30 years and a Thornton resident for
20 of those years. I moved to Thornton because I liked its rural feel and
abundance of homegrown produce, dairy products and top grade fresh meat. I have
watched our community evolve from its agricultural roots to a busy city filled
with retail, restaurants and growing neighborhoods. In the eighties I gave birth
to a beautiful daughter, Elizabeth. This wonderful young woman, now in her
twenties, has taught me much about patience, acceptance of human differences,
and setting priorities that are of real value.
During the past 20 years I have served the citizens of Adams County in a variety
of forums.
- I served as vice-chairman of a board whose priority was meeting the needs of
families with special needs children and providing early childhood intervention
through the Colorado Department of Education.
- I organized groups in two counties
to assist school districts in the development of inclusion strategies in their
neighborhood schools.
- While working for an organization in Denver, I served
families forced into homelessness due to job loss, illness, high housing costs,
domestic violence, and lack of access to higher education. Many of the families
I served were my neighbors in Adams County and many had been evicted from the
corporately owned mobile home parks in Thornton.
- For the past seven years I
served as chair of the Mobile Homeowners Tenant Association of Redwood Estates (MHOTA),
which is a statewide organization committed to balancing the power between
corporate owners and mobile homeowners.
- I currently also serve on the Adams
County Community Development Advisory Board to the County Commissioners for
oversight of the Community Service Block Grant monies and on the Adams County
Housing Task Force who is committed to affordable housing.
I am honored to serve the citizens of Thornton in making our city a buffet of
opportunities for the many working families who call Thornton “home.” Citizens
