Eastlake Station Master Plan
Back to Long Range Planning Home
What is the Eastlake Station Master Plan?
An 18-mile commuter rail transit system, the North Metro Corridor, to run between Denver Union Station and 162nd Avenue, is in the planning phase. This rail system will pass through Thornton for a good deal of its route.
The North Metro Environmental Impact Study currently underway is recommending the Thornton community of Eastlake as one of the transit stops. The City of Thornton is coordinating the development of a master plan to help ensure that new development in the Eastlake Station area functions well as a transit stop area and fits with the surrounding area.
The City of Thornton approved a Subarea Plan for Eastlake in 2003. This new Eastlake Station Plan will focus more on the immediate station area — in particular the vacant land around the station — and connections to the station.
How long will the study take?
The planning process will take approximately six months and result in recommendations that will be presented to the Thornton City Council. The final public workshop will be in September/October, 2008 and the plan will be presented to City Council shortly thereafter.
Who is involved with the Master Plan?
The City of Thornton has hired Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, a nationally-known consulting firm to prepare a master plan for the area around the FasTracks Eastlake Station area.
A Steering Committee consisting of property owners, business owner’s agency representatives and City staff will be meeting at periodic intervals to work on and guide the planning process. Use the following link to view... Consultant Presentation to the Steering Committee.
Residents will be invited to community meetings to view the plan’s progress and contribute toward the plan. See Schedule for dates of the meetings.
How can I become involved?
Any member of the public can attend the public meetings shown below. In addition, the City of Thornton welcomes questions comments and input from the community on this proposed plan. Please call 303-538-7295 or e-mail CityDevelopment@cityofthornton.net.
